Academics
There are a variety of academic options available to our young adults enrolling at Live Strong House. Our young adults range from students needing to complete their high school diploma to applying to 4- year colleges and universities around the country. We have the ability and expertise to work with these needs on an individual basis.
Life Skills
The Life Skills Department at Live Strong House is designed to guide and empower students in all phases of their life.
We focus on 4 core principles to create this environment:
LOVE, STRUCTURE, BOUNDARIES and CONSISTENCY
Clinical
Therapy is an essential aspect of our model. There are many factors to consider when thinking about best practice therapy. We focus on how our treatment modalities are delivered, incorporated, and taught within the scaffolding of our program: individual therapy, group therapy, experiential and adventure therapy, community group meetings, service efforts, and medication management, just to cover the basics.
Young Adults Completing High School
Depending on the age of the student and the amount of coursework and support needed to complete remaining credits, we have a couple different options for our students:
- Complete independent coursework at the Transition House with oversight from the Academic Department and the supervision of Transition House Day Staff.
- Enroll in one of our high school classrooms and attend class on a regular school schedule until coursework is completed.
Our school accreditation requires that all students earn 6 credits to be eligible for our high school diploma. This can include our program credits which are earned at .50 credit/3 months: P.E., Introduction to Psychology, and Personal Development and Leadership.
Post High School Support
College and Career Readiness Program (CCRP)
When our young adults finish their high school coursework, they move on to CCRP. Students can work in CCRP while still earning our program credits to qualify for their diploma. Students have several options in the program for local post-secondary education:
- After high school graduation a young adult can have the option of attending one of our local colleges while still working the program at Live Strong House. The student partners with our CCRP coach for the application and registration for classes.
- Our students also have the option to apply to our local technical college for technical or vocational education. This is also done with the direction and support of our CCRP coach.
College and University Applications
Often our young adult students are in a position to apply to colleges/universities back home or elsewhere in the country, to be ready for admission when they complete the program. This is managed several ways:
- Independently by students and/or in partnership with parents. Our Academic Director or College Counselor can act as a liaison to help meet deadlines.
- Families hire an independent college consultant who works remotely with the student to help them through the application process.
- Live Strong House does have a college counseling program as an additional service to work with students applying to colleges outside of Utah. This program is run by our Academic Director/College Counselor.
Autonomy
A training/maintaining program for LSH students to continue exploring interest areas and the needs and requirements to live independently. All students will be required to demonstrate and maintain designated independent living, vocational, and employability skills. These skills are required for a student to maintain the employment and schooling gained in the College and Career Readiness Program. When outside of school and work hours, students will work on the individualized program created by the treatment team using the applicable Autonomy Program resources.
- Students who have completed CCRP and have demonstrated competency in all core courses.
- Students who have completed high school requirements for graduation.
- Students who have completed the program and need ongoing support
